The Ninth Annual Chicago Antiques Fair

April 28–May 1, 2006
An important destination on the antiques circuit, the Chicago Antiques Fair™ is considered one of the premier antique events in the Midwest. This year’s show will attract more than 100 of the world’s most prominent dealers, including several from the United Kingdom. Categories represented include: 20th century design, architectural design, asian art and antiques, jewelry, paintings, posters, prints, rare books, sculpture, textiles, tribal art, furniture, ceramics, silver, glass and barometers. “Design with Antiques” Vignettes
Once again offering inspiration and ideas for incorporating antiques into the home, “Design with Antiques” vignettes show how several top designers, collaborating with Merchandise Mart showrooms, effectively mix antiques into different styles of décor, from classic to contemporary. This years vignettes will fea-ture products from Baker Knapp & Tubbs, Beacon Hill, Betty M Collection, Brunschwig & Fils, Ebanista, Holly Hunt, Niermann Weeks and designs by Susan Schmidt, Sanjay® Singhal, Taradash Smith, Martial, Rod Maxwell and Erin Shakoor.

Preview Party to Benefit the RIC
A special preview party Thursday, April 27, from 6–9 p.m. will benefit the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC). The RIC Women’s Board welcomes all to this wonderful evening where guests will have the first opportunity to purchase this year’s offerings while enjoying cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, live music and a silent auction of fine wines. Frances Elkins: Fashioning the American Interior
R. Louis Bofferding Friday, April 28, 2006, 1 p.m. New York lecturer, writer and antique dealer R. Louis Bofferding will explore the fascinating design career of Frances Elkins— sister of architect David Adler and creator of some of America’s most startlingly inventive rooms of the 20th century. Scorning “genteel” period rooms, Elkin’s dramatic decorating style blended European elegance with American sass and would inspire Billy Baldwin, Michael Taylor and countless other decorators.
