The Mike Bell showroom houses a collection of dramatic 18th and 19th-century European Furniture, but some designers do not know they also carry reproductions and furniture pieces designed by the company’s president, Joann Westwater.
Many types of custom work come out of the Mike Bell showroom. As Westwater explains, some of the items are derivative of former projects or reproduced from a discovered antique, frequently creating custom pieces to suit the specifi c needs of their clients. While most custom work takes place here in Chicago, some wood work carvings, for bed posts or dining tables, must be outsourced to English craftsmen. Westwater will whittle a mock-up out of plaster and send it abroad where each post is hand carved, per direction from her sample. Once the details are complete, the parts are shipped back to the states and the merchandise is built at the Mike Bell Workshop.
Westwater’s interest in sketching and drawing began more than26 years ago. After earning her degree in art, she began producing paintings for Mike Bell. At that time their space on Kinzie Street was no larger than a two car garage, which has since grown into a 26,000- square-foot workshop, 10 minutes away from The Mart.
More recently Westwater’s designs have kept up with the trends of today, including black accents and sleek lines. Stop in the Mike Bell Showroom and check out her entire collection.

As a leader in the fashion world for more than 20 years, Isaac Mizrahi has always approached his designs with an irreverent sense of color, pattern and texture. It was this same bold perspective that was the essence behind his new fabric collection for S. Harris, Suite 6-152.
Mizrahi has left no style or sensibility untouched in this interior fabric collection. Fabrics in classic “Isaac Colors” including shocking pinks, vibrant oranges and electric yellows play alongside classic grays and browns. It is the ultimate juxtaposition of timeless style and whimsical appeal. This luxurious collection is enhanced with bold metallics, giant chintz patterns and signature dots and plaids. Detail and quality are key elements of these rich and wonderfully executed fabrics.
Only the mind of Mizrahi could make this electric-meets-classic vision blend harmoniously.
