The Importance of Small
photo - DeAna RadajTalk Learn the importance of this often overlooked skill. DeAnna Radaj, a residential designer and national speaker on business topics, will discuss why small talk is a necessary skill for anyone and everyone in the design business. She’ll discuss behavior traits of a good small talker, preparing for an event, how to work a room at a party when you are among strangers, and proper "exiting" techniques to leave them wanting more. This workshop is a must for anyone who wants to work on his or her social skills, generate new clients and network a new company.

Radaj has a BS in Marketing from Marquette University and an Interior Design degree from MATC in Milwaukee. Her 15+ years as operations and marketing director for the Nature of Things Stores has led her to numerous design challenges in the development of store spaces of a variety of sizes, custom product development and merchandising strategies. She has been a trainer on the subjects of coaching employees, sales, merchandising and marketing/PR. Radaj has designed retail spaces, as well as consulted on numerous residential projects, specializing in bedrooms and nurseries.

Radaj has been featured in M magazine, MKE, The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and Milwaukee Home magazine. She was part of the 2004 WI Breast Cancer show house and was a featured presenter at the 2006 Snowmass Village Wellness Weekend, the NARI Home and Remodeling Show and the Midwest Home Expo in Chicago. Radaj is the author of numerous articles, is the former editor of the WI ASID newsletter (which featured her column “The Business of Design”) where she is still a contributor and her first design book is entitled “Designing the Life of Your Dreams from the Outside In” (7/06).

Learn How to Get Twice Your Price
Article by: Fred Berns
photo - Fred BernsEarning twice as much as a design professional doesn’t take rocket science. It takes ten simple steps. They involve little more than some focus, a bit of marketing, a tad of personal promotion, and a whole lot of commitment. I cover those steps in my program entitled Double the Fees You Set and Get, March 13 at The Mart.
Don’t tell me you can’t afford to spend time on these ten easy steps. If you don’t earn the kind of money you want, you can’t afford not to follow them. Take the first one: Set Your Eyes on the Prize. Set your fee at twice its current level, and post it on our phone, by your computer, and in your car. Wake up to that number. Go to sleep with it. Focus only on activities that will generate it. Pursue only those prospects who can afford it. View that fee as if you already earn it. Before long, you will. The other nine steps in Double the Fees are just as easy.
What’s really cool about the program is that it shows you how to earn twice as much and work less than you do now. If you want to earn some serious income as a design professional, you’ll want to attend this program. You’re just 10 steps away from doubling the fees you set and get.
