Bio
Summer Thornton Design was established to make the design process unpretentious, fun and fresh. Summer lives to create visually stimulating environments that incite, intrigue and exaggerate reality. Her work references classic forms and tradition, but blends it with an unexpected color or material, taking traditional design and turning it on end. The juxtaposition of the refined with the curious, along with the unrestrained use of pattern and intense color, gives Thornton’s work its energy.
Prior to founding her own design firm in 2007, Thornton worked under multiple designers and at a high-end European textile company at The Merchandise Mart. Her firm has had the privilege of completing a wide range of projects in the Midwest – some highlights include a 1890s Lincoln Park vintage rehab, a North Shore mansion, a down-state country home and a Gold Coast Penthouse. Her work has been featured in various magazines and Web sites.
